For Juniors

McFarlin Library at TUWhat do you need to know going into your junior year?

This year is about FOCUS. You'll need to think about your future. At the same time, you'll have tougher core courses from your major. Work hard this year and you'll be ready for a great senior year and beyond.

Checklist

  • Internships! This is HUGE. You have to start building your resume with applicable work experiences. But internships don't have to be in an office making photocopies. You can also think of internships in terms of community service too.
  • If you want to do an internship abroad, visit CGE to check out what's available for your major. An application to work abroad usually takes longer, so start early.
  • TU rocks at getting nationally competitive scholarships, like Goldwater scholarships and National Science Foundation scholarships. But you need to start early to have a shot at one of these prestigious (and generous) scholarships. TU has an office dedicated to help you get a nationally competitive scholarship, so find out what you can do!
  • Talk to your professors about career paths – having a major doesn't equate to a career. They'll know what options are available for you.
  • Build your leadership skills and look at positions you could take within organizations.
  • Work on your networking skills for the "real world." Join professional groups associated with your major and join honor societies. You'll need these skills and credentials to get a job soon.
