TU Fun Facts

Steadman Upham is the tallest university president in the nation.

Penquins in Tulsa?  The 6-foot tall penguins seen about T-town in a variety of garbs are a fund-raiser for the penguin exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo.  TU's University Ambassadors even have a baby-sized, 3-foot version!

How did ACAC get its name? Two students were in the 'caf' (Twin Towers cafeteria) and one began to choke on the food. The other student asked, “Dude, where can we get some better food?” The choking student eloquently replied with, “ACK! ACK!”

TU actually has its roots in Muskogee, where it began as Kendall College.  So, check out Merle Haggard's music--if you're a real TU fan, it's time to learn the words to "Okie from Muskogee".

Fact: 72% of reported cuts on campus--from paper cuts to skinned knees--occur in Sharp Chapel.

Looking to step up your game? Go to the Collins Fitness Center and check out the rubber chicken and play some EXTREME CHICKEN BALL. The sad thing is we are not kidding. You really can check out a rubber chicken at the Fitness Center.

Kendall Hall has no right angles on it except for the windows.

The Toilet Bowl is one of the longest running activities at TU. It is played each spring and consists of a flag football game sponsored by the men of John Mabee Hall. It has been going on one year longer than the Super Bowl and it gets a lot of alumni involvement.

“Watch out for Farley!” Farley is a ghost that supposedly causes mischievousness in McFarlin Library by making papers disappear, misplacing files, relocating books, and other harmless yet unexplained pranks.

In 1923, a Tulsa clothier offered a twenty-five dollar prize for the best University fight or loyalty song. Eleven students submitted songs. A panel of judges chose "Hurricane Spirit" by Ben Henneke. Henneke used the prize money to pay tuition and later became the University's 16th President.
