NPC Recruitment Description

August 19-22, 2013 - Week of New Student Orientation

All incoming freshmen are strongly encouraged to attend New Student Orientation as it is a great way to meet a lot of new students!  During the week of New Student Orientation, the Recruitment Counselors (RCs) will be around campus to answer your questions and help you register for Formal Recruitment.

August 21, 2013 at 6:00pm - Greek Recruitment Information Session

This event will take place in the Allen Chapman Activity Center (ACAC) during a break from Orientation activities on Wednesday. This meeting will be a time to formally meet your Recruitment Counselor (RC) and recruitment group or register for Formal Recruitment. You will learn the details of Formal Recruitment and also have a chance for your questions to be answered. This meeting has a lot of important information, so it is highly recommended that you attend.

August 23-25, 2013 - Formal Recruitment

This is when the actual events begin! Formal Recruitment is a three day process. Potential New Members (PNMs), i.e., women going through Formal Recruitment, are required to attend every party and event during this time. The point of Formal Recruitment is to allow you and all six chapters to get to know each other. It is fast-paced and full of information, so it is important for you to keep notes and to also trust the process.

There may be a day where you are not invited back to one of the chapters you really wanted. But if that is the case, it is important for you to still attend the events to which you're assigned. Remember, the chapters that you will be attending that day saw something in you that they thought would be a great fit for their chapter.

All of our sororities are well rounded, respected, and great groups! Many sorority women have friends within all of the chapters, and you will find that sorority life at TU is not the stereotypical one often portrayed in the media. Academics and Community Service are stressed within all chapters. So, remember to come into the process with an open mind and ready to have some fun!

Friday, August 23rd - "Open House Day" (Attend Six Parties)

Friday's events begin with a meeting with your Recruitment Counselor (RC) and group in ACAC. This is a chance to answer last minute questions and get organized for the day. Every PNM will go to all six houses, with a break to enjoy snacks and drinks provided. Each "party" will last 30 minutes. RCs will lead your group to and from each house. As you enter each house you'll be greeted by a chapter member; this time is for you to get to know each other. You may find during the parties that you will meet a number of chapter women, one or two at a time.

After the parties have finished, the PNMs will gather at a designated area to 'cluster and rank' all six chapters. That means the PNM will put her top 4 choices into one cluster (no rank) and then rank the remaining 2 chapters. Chapters will make lists of PNMs who they would like to invite back the next day. They will be limited on the number of women allowed to go back to their events the next day. These limits are determined by a national statistical process and the past 3 years of recruitment history at TU. Once all PNMs and chapters entered their choices, our recruitment computer program matches the two lists and your schedule for Philanthropy Day is created.

Saturday, August 24th - "Philanthropy Day" (Attend Up to Four Parties)

Saturday's events begin again with a short meeting with your RC and group. During this meeting you will receive your schedule for the day. PNMs will be invited to up to four chapters/parties. This day you will no longer travel with your recruitment group but follow your own individual schedule. Each event will last 40 minutes.

If a PNM is invited to less than four, that's ok! We'll have a break room for PNMs to relax between events. And remember, even if you're invited to less than four, that doesn't mean that you have less of a chance of being well-matched or that you are liked less than others. Many PNMs are invited to less than four on this day and are matched on Sunday to a chapter.

After the parties have finished, the PNMs will gather at a designated area to 'cluster and rank' all chapters they attended that day. This time the PNM will put her top 2 choices into one cluster (no rank) and then rank the remaining chapters she attended. Chapters will make lists of all PNMs who attended their events on Saturday who they would like to invite back the next day. Chapters again will be limited on the number of women allowed to go back to their event the next day. These limits are determined by a national statistical process and the past 3 years of recruitment history at TU. Once all PNMs and chapters entered their choices, our recruitment computer program matches the two lists and your schedule for Preference Day is created!

Sunday, August 25th - "Preference Day" (Attend up to Two Parties)

Sunday's events begin again with a short meeting with your RC and group. During this meeting you will receive your schedule for the day. PNMs will be invited to up to two chapters/parties. Each event will last one hour.

If a PNM is invited to only one, that's ok! We'll have a break room for PNMs to relax during the time which she does not have a scheduled event. Remember, even if you are invited to only one that doesn't mean that you have less of a chance of being well-matched or that you are liked less than others. Many PNMs are invited to only one chapter on this day and are matched on Sunday afternoon to a chapter.

After the parties have finished, the PNMs will gather at a designated area and rank all chapters attended that day in order of preference. This time you will sign a final binding agreement, stating that the chapters which you list, you will be willing to accept a bid. This means that if you receive a bid from a chapter and you choose not to take it, you will have to wait until the following year to join a chapter.

Chapters will make final "bid" lists of all PNMs who attended their events on Sunday, in order of preference. Once all PNMs and chapters entered their choices, our recruitment computer program matches the two lists. We will have a "quota" which is the number of new members to whom each chapter may extend a bid.

Sunday Evening, August 25th - "Bid Day Parade"

During Bid Day, held the evening of the third day of Formal Recruitment, PNMs will meet to find out if a chapter has extended a bid for membership. If a bid has been extended the PNM has the option to accept or decline the invitation. If the PNM accepts the invitation, she will walk to the chapter house from which she received a bid! Each chapter will welcome new members on the lawns of their chapter houses where pictures will be taken.

Family and friends are welcome to attend this event! However, please note that PNMs/new members will be involved in their chapter's Bid Day events that evening. Family and friends will only have a brief time with their student during that time.
