The Allen Chapman Activity Center (ACAC) is a 78,000-square-foot,
two-story
facility with an open atrium design; facilitating beautiful
views of the campus. ACAC has lap-top wireless capabilities for the TU
community, and serves as the "community center" for University students,
employees, alumni, and guests. Immediately surrounding ACAC are seating
areas with covered picnic tables and benches, and the spacious "Outback"--green
space for relaxing, studying, or for planned activities. The building also
hosts multiple services, meeting rooms, dining sites, as well as casual seating
areas and study spaces. Users enjoy the many conveniences available to
assist with their daily activities, social interactions, and academic pursuits.
Frequently visited areas
include the vast array of food and beverage options available through out the
building. The Food Court, Bonici Brothers, and Carrello's Gourmet Coffee
Kiosk offer personalized, made-to-order menus. The newly renovated
Hurricane Hut "H2H Sports Grill" has waited table service immersed in TU
Athletics memorabilia and live-action games playing on big screen TV throughout.
Also downstairs is the full-service Post Office with personal mailboxes
available for rent, the University Bookstore and Gift Shop, a satellite 24-hour
Computer Lab., a Convenience Store, and an automated teller machine.
Students who want to get more
involved with campus life, and student groups seeking resources for programming,
should visit with the Student Association Officers located in the Administrative
Suites on the 2nd floor of ACAC. Applications are available here for
student awards, officer positions, and involvement in Homecoming and other
campus-wide events. Other departments available in the
Administrative Suites include the Catering and Dining Services, and the
centralized coordination of Summer Conference Services. The University
Club is upstairs as well and is a quieter option for lunch-time dining.
Open year-round, Allen Chapman
is one of the primary sites for accommodating the event-related needs of the
University and -on a more limited basis-those of community friends.
Information about reserving space is available in the Administrative Suites on
the 2nd floor of ACAC. Specifications about meeting space options, room
dimensions and set-up diagrams, technical support, and possible dates can be
discussed with trained event-planning personnel. ACAC hosts small
workshops, group meetings, academic seminars, major speakers, live bands,
symposiums, leadership conferences, religious gatherings, wedding receptions,
and a whole lot more! From the Formal Lounge (which has a fireplace) to
the Great Hall-seating approximately 600 people, ACAC truly is an "activity
center/"
Room Reservations and Agreements
The "Allen Chapman Activity Center Reservation Policies Guide", the Event
Planning Check-list, and various room request options are available in the
Administrative Suites on the 2nd floor. These forms answer the most
commonly asked questions about reserving space in ACAC, the adjacent patios, and
the green space of the "Outback" and the "McFarlin Commons". In summary,
to reserve any part of these areas, users are asked to do the following:
- Complete and return a
"Reservation Request Form" at least four weeks prior to your activity to
ensure thorough planning and staffing of the event.
- Discuss needs for
audiovisual and/or technical support, security, or after-hours special
requests with the ACAC staff in order to predetermine what services can be
arranged. Costs associated with renting outside equipment or
scheduling additional staff will be reflected on your final invoice for
services. If we are able to accommodate your request, you will receive
a Reservation Policies Guide, a "Reservation Agreement", and a "Room Set-up
Sheet". We will offer any further assistance needed to ensure the
success of your program.
- To allow for adequate
time for preparations, please sign and return the completed "Reservation
Agreement" and "Room Set-up Sheet" ten (10) business days prior to your
event.
- Payment--if
applicable--for room reservation is due ten (10) business days prior to the
event. Non-payment may result in reservation cancellation.
Summer Programs:
Coordinators, coaches, faculty sponsors, etc. who are planning summer
programs for camps, conferences, and workshops should contact the Director
of ACAC at 631-5059 to centrally coordinate all reservation components.
This includes contracting for beds, meal plans, and recreational and meeting
spaces.
Food and Beverages
at Events:
Those planning to provide food/beverages/snacks valuing $100 or
more (in total) at there event or gathering are to contact TU's Catering
Services at 631-2145 to pre-arrange for these services. The
Catering Personnel can visit with you about all of the menu options or
help you to create something special for your particular needs. Visit
their offices in the Administrative Suites or their web-site at
www.utulsa.edu/dining to see just
a small sample of all they have to offer. In addition, please notify
the ACAC Reservation Personnel of any food/beverage/snack plans so that
appropriate space accommodations can be made for the event site.
For smaller events where
the food/beverage/snacks in total value less than $100, the group may
submit their request on the ACAC Reservation Form for review and approval.
In order to be approved to Self-Cater in this category, the items must be
pre-packaged by a licensed vendor (not homemade). The group is then
responsible for providing their own serving products, for disposing of the
waste, and for cleaning the room afterwards.
Organizations wishing to
have outside food donated are to contact--in advance--the Catering
Services Department to submit a Request for Catering Exemption form,
including with it a letter on the vendor's company letterhead. The
Director of Catering Services and ACAC will review and determine the
feasibility of granting this exemption. Groups receiving approval to
self-cater an event are responsible for disposing of all waste by-products
and cleaning the room. In addition, an Attendant Fee may be charged
for providing guidance and directions for the event clean-up.
**The Hurricane Hut--H2H
Sports Grill, the President's Lounge, Formal Lounge, Great Hall, and the
University Club are NOT rooms available for hosting self-catered events.
The Food Court is not available for Self-Catered Events during their
scheduled hours of providing food service.

Health Services
Alexander Health Center, 631-2241,
www.utulsa.edu/alexhealth
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Summer hours vary
Director: Stephanie Fell, R.N.
Professional Staff: Mary Smith, R.N., Lana Gourley, P.A.
Department Assistant II: Kathy Parsons
The Alexander Health Center provides outpatient medical
treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. The Health Center is staffed by
registered nurses, and a family practice physician is available on a part-time basis. A
Women's Clinic is staffed by a physician assistant one
afternoon a week during the fall and spring semesters.
Students who wish to see a physician need to schedule an
appointment. All students are eligible for physician and nursing services.
Students are required to show their student ID and fill out a confidential
health history that is kept on file at the health center.
During the fall and spring semesters there is no fee to see
the physician; however, during the summer sessions there is a fee for a
physician visit. A fee is also charged for medications, lab work, and minor
surgical procedures. These services may be charged to the student's tuition
account. Students are directly responsible for any medical charges incurred
through referrals, hospital costs, prescription medications, x-rays, or services
received outside the health center.
Confidential HIV testing/counseling is
available by appointment.
Staff at the Alexander Health Center also advise two student
groups: Student Health
Advisory Board and Peer
Educator Programming.
Health Insurance
The University has granted an insurance
carrier the privilege of advertising its program among students. The insurance
company will make available to students brochures outlining its program.
Students who haven't received this brochure by mail may secure it from the
Alexander Health Center.
Students who participate in the program should recognize that
this policy is designed specifically for college students. Therefore, some of
the coverage and benefits may not be similar to those offered under regular
family insurance programs. Your careful study of these policies is encouraged.
Health insurance is not required, but is recommended for domestic students.
Health insurance is required for international students, who must present
written evidence of their coverage to the International Student Services Office.
Required Immunizations
The State of Oklahoma
requires that all students provide written documentation that they have received
vaccinations against hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).
Students who are first-time enrollees and who reside in on-campus housing shall
be vaccinated against meningococcal disease. For more information
regarding these immunizations, exemptions, and waivers, please go to
www.utulsa.edu/alexhealth.

Apartments
Upperclassmen, married, non-traditional,
graduate, and law students have convenient and market-quality
apartment options right on campus. University Square Apartments (USA) are
made up of an Undergraduate Area, Law/Grad Area, and an intensive study area.
USA apartments offer various amenities including microwave, dishwasher,
washer/dryer hook-ups, walk-in closets, high-speed internet, extended cable,
university/local phone service, and community swimming pools. Our
traditional apartments provide a more economical option, including townhouses,
traditional apartments, efficiencies, and the Language House academic living
community. All
apartments offer many safety dimensions including deadbolt locks, smoke
detectors, and lighted off-street parking. Residents are expected to
acknowledge that they live in an academic community and meet those community
standards set forth in The Guide to On-Campus Living.
Complex managers for each area offer peer assistance to
apartment residents, work in the apartment office, inspect the common areas and
exteriors of buildings for maintenance concerns and implement community
programming. The apartment community strives to provide quality
programming that enhances community life by stimulating interaction among
students.
Residence Halls
University of Tulsa residence hall
living is designed to provide a comfortable home away from home and a
challenging, fulfilling social and educational environment. Each hall is
directed by a full-time professional residence director and supports academic
growth in a variety of ways. Twin Towers offers coed suite style
living environment and housing the main dining hall. John Mabee
has intensive study areas for the more serious student. Twin South
provides a unique environment through the first year residential experience
program, and the Honors House promotes a study atmosphere for selected Honors
Program students. Lottie Jane Mabee is an all-female,
traditional style hall. LaFortune House was
newly renovated in 1999-2000. This is a coed, suite-style living
environment with a live-in faculty mentor entitled "Faculty Don."
Each student who lives in the residence halls is a member of
the Residence Hall Association (RHA). This organization, which is the liaison
between residents and administration, works to promote positive changes in
residence hall life.
Liability and Renter's Insurance
The University does not assume any
liability for loss, damage, or theft of any personal property, or for damage or
injury resulting from; explosion,
fire, mechanical failure of water, steam, or gas lines,
defective wiring, or for the negligence of any other
occupants of the building. Students who wish to protect themselves from the
possibility of such losses should cover their belongings with appropriate
insurance. It is to your advantage to contact an insurance company and obtain
renter's insurance. Another alternative is to seek coverage under your parents'
homeowner's insurance.

ID/Parking Center
Twin Towers Hall, 2821 E. 8th St.,
631-3360; Fax: 631-3362,
www.utulsa.edu/housing/life/idcards.html
www.utulsa.edu/security/parking.htm
The ID/Parking Center handles University ID cards (pictures,
production, and replacement), and campus parking
permits (for faculty, staff, and students), passport photographs, and
international travel IDs (ISIC cards). University ID
cards are not transferable. Whenever a student is on
University property or at University events, they must carry their TU Student
Identification Card and should be prepared to present the ID card to University
officials to verify their identity. Consequently, ID cards should not be
lent to anyone at any time. Disciplinary action will be taken against
students fraudulently using another's card and against the owner if the
fraudulent use for the card was permitted by the owner. Lost ID cards
should be reported as soon as possible to the ID/Parking Center during business
hours to protect the account from unauthorized use. There is a $15 charge
for replacement ID's. After hours lost cards can be reported to Twin
Towers Dining or ACAC Dining personnel which through their cash registers can
put a "hold" on the account.
A feature of the ID card is the "Hurricane Gold" debit
account which is usable in most campus vending machines, most laundry
facilities, the campus bookstore, most photocopy machines, ID/Parking Center,
Business Office, and all dining locations on campus. More uses for the
debit account system are anticipated in the future. This debit feature
reduces the need to carry or keep cash on hand, greatly enhancing safety for
all. The "Hurricane Gold" account is an easy way to buy on campus.
Simply set an amount and prepay it on your account at the
ID/Parking Center, located in Twin Towers Hall; or the Business Office in
McClure Hall. Smaller dollar increments can be added to your account
through automated transfer terminals in McFarlin Library, College of Law, and
Allen Chapman Activity Center. Purchases will be deducted from this amount
as they are made upon presentation of your ID card. When you reach your
Gold limit, purchase more. Money in your "Hurricane Gold" account at the
end of the academic year will be carried over into the upcoming academic term's
balance. If you prefer, remaining balances are fully refundable at the end
of the Spring semester or when graduating or withdrawing from the University.
If you fail to request a refund of any balance remaining in your account for a
period of six (6) months after you graduate or withdraw from the University, the
balance may be deemed abandoned property, in which case the balance will be
remitted to the University, or you may choose to contribute any balance in your
account to the Annual Fund designated for University scholarships.
"Hurricane Gold" accounts are not a credit card or checking account, but a
non-interest bearing convenience account. Banking regulations and
University policy prohibit cash withdrawal during the academic year. Any
request for withdrawal of funds must be presented in writing.
Your ID card has three types of technology on it. It
has bar code on the back for the library, a magnetic swipe on the back for meal
plan and "Hurricane Gold" accounts, and a proximity antenna encircling the card
for door access. It is important to follow some simple steps to insure the
proper operation of your ID card.
Do not
use your ID card as an ice scraper; it will damage the circuitry for the
proximity array and also possibly break the card.
Do not wash and/or dry your ID card; it will make the card brittle and
susceptible to breaking.
Do not run a magnet across the magnetic strip.
Do not punch a hole in the card to carry it on a chain. If you want a hole
punched in the card please bring it to the ID/Parking Center and let the staff
punch the hole in the correct location to avoid damage to the circuitry of the
card.
Do not expose the card to extreme temperatures.
