Biographies

Contributor Yafes Abacioglu received his M.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1997.   He is a Ph.D. candidate in Petroleum Engineering at TU.  He enjoys reading and swimming.

Nancy Bunker, a Ph.D. candidate in the English department at the University of Tulsa, currently is studying for her doctoral exams.  She recently published a book review in Seventeenth Century News and won first place in TU's 3rd Annual Student Research Colloquium.

Victoria Chance, editor and contributor, received her B.A. in Liberal Studies at Park College in Parkville, Missouri and her M.A. in English from the University of Tulsa.  She is now a Ph.D. candidate in literature at TU.  She has published poems and an essay in Park College Journal and Park Scholar respectively.

A. Cristina Emanuela Dascalu, contributor and copy editor, and a Ph.D. candidate in literature, launched and founded the Research Colloquium at the University of Tulsa in 1998.  She is an advertising manager for the James Joyce Quarterly.  She has won numerous poetry prizes including third prize in the Sigma Tau Delta Literary Contests for her poem "Dispassion."  She is the recipient of numerous teaching awards such as the Teacher of the Year distinction at Petru Rares High School in Romania and Teaching Award at The University of Tulsa.  She enjoys classical music and painting.

Contributor Gehan Eltanany received his B.S. in Chemistry from Ain Shames University, Cairo, Egypt.  He currently is earning his Masters degree in Chemistry at the University of Tulsa.

David Farley, assistant editor, is currently working on his dissertation titled "Intellectuals Abroad:  The Modernist Travel Writing of E. E. Cummings, Wyndham Lewis, and Rebecca West."  He has published on Yeats and has an article on Ezra Pound forthcoming from  Paideuma titled "'Damn the Partition!':  Ezra Pound and the Passport Nuisance."

Robert Harmon, contributor, who received his M.S. degree in geosciences from the University of Tulsa in 2000, is currently working in the petroleum industry as a geologist.

Lisa Inman, contributor, revceived both her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Tulsa, graduating with her M.A. in May 2000.  She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies, and received the Laverne Anderson Writing Award in 1997.  She is currently working on a novel, and is revising several articles for publication, including the essay whose abstract appears here.

Carol Johnson, author of Autism: From Tragedy to Triumph and adjunct instructor at Tulsa Community College, just completed her coursework for her Ph.D. studies in literature at the University of Tulsa.

Matthew L.J. Norris, contributor, is M.S. student in mechanical engineering at the University of Tulsa.   He received his BSME from TU in 1998.  His research focuses on the development of a hybrid vehicle conversion kit for a Ford Contour.  The department's hybrid vehicle project has enjoyed great success the past three years, winning one national championship and twice finishing second at the American Tour de Sol.  Matt has been the team leader for this project since fall 1997.  He enjoys backpacking, camping and sports.

Doohyun Park, contributor, earned his B.A. in English from Choongang University in Seoul, Korea, and his M.A. from Auburn University in Alabama.  He is writing his dissertation titled "The Aporias of Human Agency: Contingency, Self-Creation, and Social Interdependence in the Plays of Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, and Thomas Middleton."

Contributor Joseph Redman received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1999 at the University of Tulsa, and currently is working on his MBA at TU.  Research work, conducted while he worked on his undergraduate degree, was presented at the 1999 AIAA/ASME Symposium.

Ben P. Robertson, editor and contributor, is currently preparing for his doctoral exams in literature and plans to write his disseretation on the British Romantic poet Caroline Bowles.  He won third place in the Third Annual TU Student Research Colloquium for his paper titled, "Churches and Churchyards in Hardy and Larkin."

Nancy Shelton, webmaster, received her B.S.B.A. in MIS/Accounting and M.B.A. from the University of Tulsa in 1996 and 1998 respectively.  She is currently working on her Master of Accounting and Information Systems and is an adjunct instructor at Tulsa Community College.

Heath Weaver, contributor, received his B.S. in biology from the University of Tulsa in 1998 and is working toward his M.S. in biology at the University of Tulsa, focusing on behavioral ecology.  His poetry has appeared in the Rippling Waters, an anthology published by The National Library of Poetry.  His favorite writer is Sherman Alexie.  He enjoys tramping through the woods, reading and basketball.
