Use of Colors

If a spot color is used on a publication, it should complement the university's official blue (PMS 280), yellow (PMS 109), gold (PMS 873), or red (PMS 032).

Seals and logos should be printed according to the above color specification in designated TU colors (see below). They can also be blind embossed or stamped in gold foil.

This policy is intended as a guideline and should be followed as publication materials are developed. Exceptions will be granted by the Office of University Relations if cause is justified. If publications are found not to conform to this policy and have not been approved as exceptions, the department or program producing the piece will be expected to take corrective action.

Ink Specifications

PMS Ink Colors
The following ink colors are used when blue, yellow, red, or gold inks are specified in publications.

Blue: PMS 280
Yellow: PMS 109
Red: PMS 032
Gold: PMS 8723 (for foil stamping, Aster Universal M818)

PMS refers to the Pantone Matching System, a standard reference to ink colors used in printing.

Process Ink Colors
It is not recommended that the PMS colors be reproduced using screens of the four process printing inks, but if budget constraints do not allow the addition of PMS color to a full-color publication using process colors, the PMS colors specified above may be approximated by using the combination of the following screen tints.

Blue: 100 cyan, 72 magenta, 18.5 black
Yellow: 100 yellow, 10 magenta
Red: 100 magenta, 100 yellow
